A Mother’s Day reflection for all…

Because of the human experience of living and because of the human condition of fallenness, every single woman and man alive have differing emotions surrounding Mother’s Day. You may be experiencing joy and sorrow, laughter and tears, gratefulness and anger, life and loss, remembrance and grief, anticipation and longing.

I want to assure you that holding whatever emotion you are feeling is ok and in fact, God, the perfect Father desires that you hold them before him, trusting him to bring about good for those who love him. He wants you to trust him that even in the barrage of your thoughts and feelings about Mother’s Day, he will never leave you and you are always welcomed by him, even if it’s through tears or laughter.

And he wants you to trust that no matter what motherhood looks like for you – biological mom, adoptive mom, foster mom, step mom, single mom, spiritual mom or the hope of being a mom – his plan for you is perfect and he is growing you to look more and more like him – full of love, mercy, kindness, and peace.

You are seen by him.

He sees the tireless nights, he sees the effort you give, he sees the open hand you put forth as your precious son or daughter leaves the house each day, he hears every single one of your prayers.

He sees you.

He loves you.

And he loves your child more than you ever could.

So happy Mother’s Day to all of you women out there. May your day be blessed as you walk in your true identity – a fully known, fully loved and fully forgiven daughter of the King.

A prayer –

God, you are our perfect, faithful heavenly Father, who’s love for us is beyond measure, your grace is sufficient for us and your tender loving kindness overwhelms us. Jesus, how we praise you. Holy Spirit, how we love you.

Lord, on this Mother’s Day, minister to our individual hearts. Wherever we are on the spectrum of emotions, Lord, you can handle it and you are there to comfort us and to guide us.

In the spaces where we feel sorrow and grief, Lord, may we feel your presence.

In the spaces where we feel longing and desire, Lord, may we feel your presence.

In the spaces where we feel fear and hurt, Lord, may we feel your presence.

Likewise, God, in the spaces where we feel joy, excitement, gratefulness, peace, and deep love may we feel your presence.

Your word says that you are with us until the very end of the age, so we trust that you are near. God, today and every day, may we come before you, our perfect Father, one who has no falsehood in him, one who has no darkness in Him and may we fix our eyes and our hearts and our minds on you, knowing that our hope is in you and you alone. May we surrender to the plan you have for us knowing that your plan is better than ours. And may we draw near to you knowing that you will mold us into the women that you have called us to be, your daughters.

Lord, we give you the praise and we love you.

In your precious name we pray, Amen.
